ABOUT JACQUELIN GREEN

My name is Jacquelin Green.  I am married and a mom to four amazing kids who have provided me with a variety of personal birth and breastfeeding experiences!  For many years I have worked with families as a parenting educator and family and prenatal outreach worker with families of all kinds.

I have always been interested in supporting pregnant and  labouring moms and have had the opportunity to be present at the births of a number my friends' children.  Recently I was able to fulfill a long held  dream by completing the DONA Birth Doula Training program at Mothering Touch here in Victoria.  I am currently a Doula in Training - completing the necessary process for certification as a birth doula with the Doulas of North America Association (DONA).

I have had the privilege of providing labour assistance in a a number of births and I am also currently studying in the Lamaze Childbirth Educator Program at Douglas College in Vancouver. In my "day" job, I am the Prenatal and Family Support Coordinator for the Young Parent Support Network - providing support to pregnant and parenting young women in our community.

I believe very strongly that all women deserve to have continuous caring support from a professional labour support person of their choosing.  Research has shown that women who have this kind of support can have shorter labours and may manage pain more effectively.  In addition, /spouses/partners of the labouring mom can relax, knowing that an experienced labour support person is present and provide the important love and support necessary to help mom cope well with labour!

Birth is an incredibly powerful experience, and each one is special and unique.  Whatever the type of birth, women can celebrate and be proud of the amazing experience they have bringing a child into the world.  My job is to help that be the experience you want it to be, and to provide support for the safe and healthy birth of baby and the safe and healthy transition to the role of new mom!!
